How to Stay Informed on the Issues

UCONN ADVOCATES ISSUE BRIEFS AND E-MAIL ALERTS

In order to help advocates stay informed about the issues facing UConn and public higher education in Connecticut, UCONN ADVOCATES will send out issue briefs and e-mail alerts on a regular basis. We encourage all advocates to read them thoroughly in order to stay informed about designated issues.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY HOME PAGE

When the Legislature is in session, you can get up-to-the-minute status reports of any bill introduced in the House or Senate by calling (860) 240-0555. This information is also available on the State of Connecticut General Assembly's internet home page at: www.cga.state.ct.us under Quick Search for Bill Status or the search option under Legislative Information.

The legislature's home page contains Lists of Bills, Calendars, Journals, Transcripts and Votes; a home page for the Majority and Minority caucuses as well as each staff office, committee, and legislative agency; as well as a Legislative Information page with information going back to 1993. This Web site is constantly updated.

When the Legislature is not in session, Connecticut bill and public act information for the current year is available from

the House Clerk: (860) 240-0400 [www.cga.state.ct.us/hco],
or Senate Clerk: (860) 240-0500 [www.cga.state.ct.us/sco],
or State Library: (860) 566-5736 [www.cslib.org/llru.htm].

For past years, call the State Library at (860) 566-4544. For information on statutes in other states, call (860) 566-4601.

CONNECTICUT NETWORK (CTN)

The Connecticut Network (CTN) airs up to 12 hours of daily live and taped coverage of public hearings and sessions of the CT State Legislature over the Community Colleges Information Television (CCIT) channel and on local access channels. CTN also provides two streaming video sources for the World Wide Web at www.ctn.state.ct.us. During official sessions of the General Assembly, you can watch the deliberations of the House of Representatives on Channel One and the State Senate on Channel 2. Whenever the House and Senate are not in session, either channel can be used to watch a variety of live and taped coverage of hearings and meetings of all three branches of state government, as well as other events that relate to public policy in Connecticut.
