Loan Forgiveness, Tuition Waiver Proposals Passed By Committee PDF Print E-mail

Lawmakers want to retain and retrain workers in high-demand occupations by offering incentives, and two bills that would do just that won unanimous approval from the higher education and employment advancement committee Tuesday. 

One bill would create a loan-forgiveness program starting in 2013. The program, proposed by Gov. M.
Jodi Rell, would forgive part of a student loan if the student graduates from a Connecticut school with a bachelor's or associate's degree in green technology, life sciences or health-related information technology, and if the graduate lives and works in the state for at least two years.
